The Coffee

50% Brazil Mesodo – Honey:

Sourced through Mio, Fazenda Mio is owned and run by the Pellicer family, in the Sul de Mias region of Minas Gerais, southeast Brazil. Roughly 32% of the farm is planted with coffee trees, with Mio growing various varieties. The farm estate in Monte Santo de Minas (900 to 1100 masl) covers 1,976 hectares in between the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest biomes. Four hundred hectares of Arabica cultivars. The process is Honey — Mechanical de–pulping of the cherries at the wet mill while ensuring the mucilage stays attached to the beans. The sticky part of the cherry contains high amounts of sugar, resulting in a pronounced body and developed, chocolaty sweetness in Mió’s coffee.

.

50% Colombia Volcano – Washed:

Volcano Program. This program is incredibly special for a few reasons. Nariño has the highest altitude at which coffee is grown in Colombia which also means temperatures are quite low. This results in the slow maturation of cherries which ensures higher levels of sugar in the coffee. Another important factor that makes the coffee from this region so unique is the rich soil found in Nariño. Unlike many regions in Colombia, Nariño’s soil is extraordinarily rich in volcanic ash which is mainly due to the high volcanic activity in the area. Typically, volcanic ash in soil is rich in nutrients and contributes to a much healthier plant and higher complexity in the cup.

The coffee is grown at 1700-2200 metres above sea level and is a mix of several varietals consisting of Caturra, Castillo and Typica. It is a washed processed coffee.

Great coffee

This is the first time I have bought fresh coffee beans to make coffee at home and I’m really pleased with the coffee and service from casa espresso and I’ll definitely going back to get some more and trying their other coffee.

Unione Coffee

My favourite one of Casa's coffees (I've not tried them all yet...) that I make just for myself (my wife prefers the more chocolatey flavour of Charlestown blend). If I want a longer drink I reach for the Charlestown or Decaff as they both work wonderfully with milk but otherwise it's Unione as this is just too delicious to put milk in. The smell and the taste are lovely.

I think it's worth mentioning that the staff at Casa as also fantastic. Friendly, helpful, take coffee seriously but without any coffee-snobbery in sight.
