Our Story
Founded in 2000 Casa Espresso has grown to become one of the most respected independently owned coffee roasting companies in Yorkshire. Casa Espresso is a family business and was founded by Nino’s father Tony, who set out to import and distribute Italian espresso machines to the UK market. Being the first licensed importer of Sanremo in the UK, we still work with Sanremo to this day to distribute their machines. Tony started the business from a spare room in his family home which is where the name ‘Casa’ originated from.
Nino took over the business in 2007 after his father passed away and continued to run the business with the same values his father Tony did. Nino’s vision was to evolve the business and to put the focus on hand roasting ethically sourced, high- quality coffee’s from around the globe making it more accessible for local customers to access the world of ‘specialty coffee’.
In 2014 we invested in our first roaster, with the aim & objective to roast exclusively specialty grade coffee in Bradford allowing us to become Bradford’s first specialty coffee roasters. Since then, our business has grown organically and collected a few awards on its path, our passion paid off when we became a Great Taste Producer in 2019. This signifies that we have won the Great Taste Awards for 3 years running for some of our coffees, some of which are still part of our core range to this day.
Our passion, knowledge and expertise has allowed us to rapidly establish a growing customer base that includes independent coffee shops, delis, restaurants, mobile events and even breweries.
The Team
A small close-knit team, but with many years of experience as working within the specialty coffee industry. We thrive on providing the best service, from training to technical support and everything in between.
We pride ourselves on being a welcoming group of coffee lovers, who share a passion for working with like minded business’ which share our goals of providing high quality products built on knowledge and expertise.
Nino – Director
Nino’s father founded Casa Espresso in 2000, and Nino took over when his dad passed away in 2007. Before the coffee business, Nino had spent many years in the restaurant trade in Bradford.
Fun fact, Nino’s father also opened the first pizzeria in Bradford in 1974.
Jonnie – Head Roaster – Head of Operations
Jonnie is our head roaster and coffee guru. He is the person responsible for making our coffee taste so good. What Jonnie doesn’t know about coffee, is not worth knowing!
Jonnie is a self-taught roaster, starting when we bought our first 1kg electric roaster in 2014. Jonnie heads up our daily operations.
David – Despatch Manager/ Assistant Roaster
David is responsible for keeping the roastery organised and tidy. He manages the bagging and packing of wholesale and retail orders with care & attention to detail. He assists Jonnie on the production roasts.
You will see his face when buying coffee at the roastery, or when he is delivering wholesale orders.
Aidan – Wholesale Accounts – Barista Trainer
Aidan is our wholesale accounts first point of contact. If your staff needs barista training, or if you are setting up your brand-new coffee shop, Aidan will be there to assist you all the way.
He assists Jonnie with the QC and sample roasting. He also runs our Home Barista courses.
Leah – Roastery Operations Assistant
Leah is our latest recruit, and a proper coffee nerd.
Her home coffee set-up puts the rest of the team to shame. She assists David with the retail & wholesale orders and is a mean baker.
