The Coffee
Finca La Babilla is a 2-hectare farm owned by Lino and his family, located in the Caserío San Francisco de Asís, Huabal district, Jaén province, in the Cajamarca region of northern Peru. Lino has been a coffee producer since he was young, inheriting the tradition from his parents. Initially sourced from the lush coffee forests of Ethiopia in the 1930s, the Geisha (or Gesha) variety found its way to the CATIE research centre in Central America, specifically documented as accession T2722 in 1953. However, the pivotal moment for Geisha arrived in 2005, when it shattered the existing coffee auction records, achieving an unprecedented price of over $20 per pound, catapulting it into the spotlight of the specialty coffee scene.
